The X Caddis fly is a versatile, attractor-pattern dry fly designed to imitate a range of emerging and adult caddis species; its sparse, buoyant hackle and slim body ride low in the film to suggest a struggling insect while easy-to-see wing and tail materials aid detection in fast water. Tied in natural olive, tan, and darker contrast colors, the X Caddis works well during partial hatches and when fish key on terrestrials or spent caddis — anglers appreciate its ability to trigger aggressive takes from picky trout. Its simple profile fishes well under an indicator or as part of a dry-dropper rig, and in sizes from 16 to 20 it covers most caddis situations in streams and pocket water.
